When I saw Amy Flanagan’s debut Chapter book, “Mrs R. Snugglesworth, Attorney at Law,” I was sold!
What a fabulous idea to have a dog as an attorney. The illustrations by Jon Davis are fantastic.
How can’t we fall in love with this book. Here are the specifics…
HOW WAS THE BOOK STARTED? Amy had a desire to write a book. Her husband gave their family dog the nickname of Mrs Snugglesworth. Her daughter added the “R,” and said, “Mrs. R. Snugglesworth was her lawyer.”
Here’s what is funny. When Amy’s children were in a bit of trouble they’d tell their Mom/Dad to see their lawyer (a.k.a Mrs R. Snugglesworth the dog). Super creative, right!
During COVID lockdown, Amy realized she had a great story idea with Mrs R. Snugglesworth. She got down to work and in 18 months wrote the story.
WHAT IS THIS STORY ABOUT? If you love dogs, you will love this creative story about Mrs R. Snugglesworth, a 70 lb low-to-the-ground PRECIOUS, who decides she wants more in life. She’s happy enough with her human family, so she thinks. Then one day, she’s at the Bark Park helping judge a “dog incident” and decides she’s found her passion. Yes, she wants to be a lawyer. She enrolls in Wagsworth Legal System, starts studying and then gets her FIRST case.
She’s representing a Great Dane named, “Pitter Patter,” who is accused of stealing his human’s stuffed animal. While she hasn’t finished her law degree yet, she’s compelled to represent Pitter Patter and prove his innocence.
This is an exciting and humorous page turner. You’ll have to read the book to find out if Mrs R. is able to save Pitter Patter.
This is a delightful book for adults and children. Great for kids to read on their own or to read aloud to children. A perfect bedtime story.

ABOUT the AUTHOR
Amy Flanagan is an Instructional Designer and children’s author living with her family in the Chicago suburb of Batavia. She began writing Mrs. R. Snugglesworth, Attorney-at-Law in early 2021 to stay busy during the long pandemic winter. She wanted to create something that would make kids (and adults) laugh out loud. She is already working on the second book in the “Mrs. R.” series. Like you, she wonders what the ‘R’ stands for.
