Did you know that October is manufacturing month in Wisconsin?

The Central Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance, Heavy Metal Tour promotes career awareness in manufacturing trades, which is fantastic.

There are so many industries that young people can learn about. I had been working in magazine advertising sales when we were hit with a tough economy in 2008. I had to re-invent myself.

I was lucky to find a project management job in manufacturing for a CEO, who was willing to teach me “everything” about manufacturing, ie procurement, vendor management, inventory, audits, managing employees on manufacturing floor, bidding process, root cause analysis, and more. It’s an exciting and interesting industry.

I’d love to see companies creating internships for kids, it’s the BEST way for them to learn and get their foot in the door with a company.
