Chicago – NASCAR Street Car Race… July 1-2, 2023

Are you traveling to Chicago? Chicago is making history right now. We are the first one to host a NASCAR Street Car Race. A lot going on in the city. Setting up the track. YES, it’s actually “downtown,” see the figure eight. There are some really sharp corners the drivers will take.

One of the racers was being interviewed. Forgive me for not catching his name. I don’t keep up with NASCAR, I just saw the news clip quickly. He was asked, what ALL drivers are asked, “So, are you EXCITED about coming to Chicago and racing the city?”

A bit of silence, while the race car driver pulled his thoughts together and responded, “When I heard the news….why, yes.” I sensed hesitation in his response, because this is something new in the middle of the city. They are used to racing an actual race track, so there are a lot of unknowns. They don’t have a lot of practice time. In fact, one news outlet said they will have an hour to practice before the race. Can that be?

They say that 65% of people coming to show are from out of town (Internationally too). This will generate business for hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. Chicago will be showcased for its beauty AROUND THE WORLD. Expected revenue $113M. Great for tourism.

I was able to track down race times for people “in” the city or if you want to watch it on TV. From what I heard, it should be televised. I saw some clips of them driving… WOW, they go FAST.

So, a busy weekend here in Chicago. Weather forecast – 80s.

Wishing you all a — Happy 4th of July!

  1. Interesting
Meanwhile in Italy a 5-year-old boy was killed in an accident during a YouTube challenge by a Lamborghini SUV rented by five young stupid Italian content creators who were shooting a clip at very high speed

We have crazy things like this going on too. A lot of drag racing type of things, car jacking, shootings and now… Young people in the hundreds are coming out in groups and attacking different neighborhoods, breaking store windows, jumping on cars, etc. It’s madness really. Chicago has always been a beautiful town, it’s sad to see this going on. Many of us would prefer NOT to have NASCAR here, just have our normal summer events. THEN you have the other side, who thinks it’s so great. We hope for the best this weekend. SAD to hear about your situations too.

Saturday race only ran half their laps, because of lighting. They were supposed to finish on Sunday, but bad rain ALL day. On Sunday, they did run the 2nd race at the end of the day, but again, I think it was only half of the laps, because of late start time and sunset, bad flooding, just dangerous. Did you see any of it on TV? It was exciting, if you know Chicago and like speed racing. Here are extended highlights, at one point they have an all car pileup…. https://youtu.be/XkNtOxnoHh0

LOL – I’m not either, it’s not the entire race, just highlights. I live in Chicago, so I had to see what was going on, right! 🙂
