Spark of Inspiration

This story of the Cigarette Girl takes place in Indonesia in the 1960s. It gives an overview of the cigarette business at that time. It’s the story of Dasiyah, a woman, who is gifted in creating cigarette flavors. However, because she is a woman, she is pushed aside and told that just her presence, as a woman, will put a curse on the existing cigarette flavors. Imagine the absurdity in that. It’s hard to watch woman being treated like this.

Here is what’s interesting, we all take away something from a movie/series. I was focused on the family drama that existed. I was reading reviews, they focused on the way the movie glamorizes cigarette making and smoking. The reviews worry that now young people will find it cool to smoke. Ah, this could be true, but it takes away from the story itself.

This is a family saga with many twists and turns in the plot. You’ll definitely be pulled in, wanting to know what the final outcome is.
