Every once in a while, Netflix surprises me with a show like “Dragon Sakura.”
This Japanese show deals with tough issues that High School’s face. A lawyer, Kenji Sakuragi, is hired to create a special advanced course, teaching test taking skills, to get at least five students (all walks of life) accepted into the prestigious Toudai University.
The actor, Hiroshi Abe, is fantastic as the lawyer (Kenji Sakuragi). He’s no nonsense, a great motivator, observant of student’s family issues that hold them back, and most importantly he teaches the students “how to take a test,” even if they aren’t the BEST, they can still PASS! He allows students to dream big, he doesn’t coddle them, instead challenges them to pursue success.
This is what is missing in America. Unfortunately, we worry too much about people having hurt feelings, so try to remove any competitiveness in schools. Unfortunately, to succeed, life is about competing, striving, creating, etc.
A great show on discipline and perseverance! I was motivated too! When we get low, have those sad days, we ALL need a bit of “tough love!”
