Chicago Marathon – ~47K participants – VICTORY!

This weekend, my daughter ran the 45th Annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon. It was a goal of hers. It’s hard to win the lottery to gain a spot to run, but she did it. One year of training came down to this past Sunday, 26.2 miles around the city.

I have to say, it was exciting. AMAZING to see so many runners, all ages, zooming by. At all the stops, on the route, people cheering, etc.

People were kind and orderly. No pushing and shoving, the β€œL” train was FREE during the race. We were surprised by that. So many road closures that we had to commute by train to different mile markers on the route.

It was nice to walk downtown without cars driving by. An entirely new experience. You can see from the map, the entire downtown Chicago area was closed off.

We got LUCKY and saw her running toward the FINISH line. She was tired, she was sore, but boy was she excited to have finished.

Two large medals as proof!

VICTORY was finally at hand! PROUD of her!!

  1. Finishing a marathon is a real accomplishment. Another blogger did a post about being a volunteer at that Marathon where he handed out water. The elite runners at the front didn’t stop for a drink but the later ones after the two hour mark were very thirsty and grateful. He said you needed to offer a cup or bottle of water in each hand to keep up with the demand.

Pat, so true. Those Elite runners are incredible. They run one mile in under 5 minutes. Imagine that!! My daughter said there were definitely those hard miles. You don’t want to give up, but you definitely wonder what you were thinking when you signed up. LOL It’s incredible, so many age groups. Fun to watch and be inspired. πŸ’•. Oh, when she crossed finish line, and started walking, one of the volunteers handed her a beer! She was surprised, but when you are thirsty, anything tastes good. We had good cool weather, made running easier too.
