Tea Experts – Foam in tea bags?

I’m normally a coffee drinker; however, I get in tea moods and do a switch over. Recently, I was making Taylors of Harrogate, Yorkshire Gold black tea. I like the flavor of this tea. Black teas do have different flavors.

As I was letting the tea steep I noticed this foam in the tea bag. In all my years, I’ve never seen foam in any tea bag I’ve used. Is this common? Is the foam bad for you?

While we are talking about tea, I’d like to buy loose leaf tea. For the tea lovers out there. Do you know of any good online shops that sell loose leaf tea? Brands that you like?

My mother goes to an Indian restaurant and they sell black tea in a very big bag. When I visit her, she gives me some. It’s nice, very strong, good with milk.

My daughter went to College in Ireland. Her first year there she said, “Mama, every dorm has a tea kettle and they only drink Barry’s tea.”

Oh, and this was funny. The people in her house had a chart on the refrigerator with everyone’s name and how they liked their tea made. That way whomever was making tea, knew what each person preferred.

Here’s to drinking good tea!

I always use tea bags too, but to spice my life up, I thought it might be nice to try loose leaf tea. LOL – we have to keep changing, so life isn’t too routine. 🙂

Agree, I don’t think it makes a difference either, but was “wondering” what it was. There are so many recalls on foods lately, what is going on, so it had me wondering. HERE IS WHAT I READ: The appearance of tea foam is actually the result of a chemical reaction involving a natural substance found tea leaves: tea saponin. Tea saponin is an organic substance produced by tea plants.

  3. I use leaf tea every day. I find it has a richer depth of flavour than bags – although Yorkshire tea bags are pretty good. They do an English Breakfast leaf tea. I wonder if you can get it where you are?

But more important than anything else is the method of making tea – warm a teapot before you put the leaves in and also ensure the water is right at boiling point (not before or after). There are also debates as to whether you put the milk in first or after…

Thank you for your nice note. I believe in warming the tea pot too, it makes such a difference. I’ll have to see if I can find the Yorkshire Breakfast Tea. Oh, when my daughter was living in Ireland, they would say the milk goes in first. However, I think if you put too much milk in you’ve weakened your tea. You have more control if you add it after.

Thank you for your links. I started following you last year. I always enjoy your posts. I’ll look at these that were about tea. You know, it’s funny. I think you are on WordPress, but when you leave a comment, it says, “Someone,” versus the name of your WordPress site.

Sigh, thanks for sharing. Lately, in America, so many things and food items are becoming contaminated. Cookies were recalled because they had tiny rocks in them. Can you imagine?? Constant recalls. Well, it explains why so many more people are getting cancer. Anything can give us cancer. Stay well!!

      1. Rocks in cookies! But then greed drives people crazy. We are not sure whether a product has carcinogenic element.
