Stress/Pain – Try an acupressure mat…

My daughter introduced me to these “torture” mats. I say, “torture,” because those spikes are painful. You have to be careful when using them.

I KNOW. My daughter had this mat on her sofa. I sat down, not paying attention to it. I yelled! It was a painful surprise!! It reminded me of grade school. A kid decided putting thumb tacks on our chairs would be funny.

Her reply, “Oops, sorrweee Mama. I meant to put that away.”

My reply, “WHAT the HECK was THAT??”

She said it was an acupressure mat, helps with her lower back pain..

She had bought a package deal, gave me the pillow to try out.

When you use it, within a minute, your blood circulation is flowing. I use it around my head, neck, shoulders, arm, back, feet – anywhere I have pain.

They give the kind of massage, we cannot give to ourselves. You can use them up to 20 minutes. I haven’t gotten past 7-10 minutes. Those spikes hurt. Not in a bad way, in a “wake you up” way!

Chuckling – you forget your original pain, because you are focused on those spikes and the awakening of your blood circulation. It’s interesting!

This is a sharing post.

Acupressure mats are not for everyone. However, good to learn new things.

Being quick to deal with stress/pain gets us back in the saddle!

  1. Interesting and might be worth a try. I have tried acupuncture four different times with different doctors in different cities. The first one gave me six months of less tight leg muscles. The last three offered no change. I blamed the doctor on two and three. Not sure why four didn’t work — the doctor seemed well trained and was very professional/helpful.

Acupuncture is hit or miss. Maybe you can find these acupressure mats in a store, so you can see what they feel like. Pain is no fun.

      1. Great idea. Stiffness is often a greater problem than pain.

Yes, stiffness sounds like you might need stretching, pilates maybe.

Joanna, it sure is a gift to have no pain. I was lifting weights, something happened. It’s all good. Our body is a machine, we need to take care of it, especially as we age. We are like a vintage car, need TLC. Have a beautiful day.

Thanks, I do like it, but I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep on it quite yet. 😉

  4. Oh / Ew – I feel a bit conflicted about this thing! It looks so pretty, but knowing that it actually hurts freaks me out a little – how curious that you can’t go more than 10 minutes, but your friend falls asleep on hers! Still… I’m interested enough to go look it up , I’m thinking it might help my shoulder… thanks for the idea! Linda xx

(PS – because you’re so amazing I did another shout-out of your blog on mine to say thank you for all your support; http://themindfulmigraine.blog/2024/07/17/half-a-year-old/)

Linda, I think those acupressure mats are worth looking into. I think chiropractors recommend them for lower back pain. See if you can find it some place and try it out in person. Oh, and thank you for sharing my blog. Good to share new ideas with people. If you have a light shirt on, it’s not so painful. It’s actually nice to be working on computer or watching a show and sitting with it behind your back. 😉
