Winter… Time for Soups!

Winter hit us with a fury this past week. It’s been so cold and icy outside. Time for soups.

I really like lentil soup. I use the red ones, because they cook faster. However, what I don’t like is that they break apart. See in photo,

The green lentils keep their shape and have a stronger flavor.

Then there is chicken noodle soup.

When we are pressed for time, broth with dumplings hits the spot.

My mother always made bean soup with a bacon flavor. It was a thicker soup. Almost like chili.

What soups do you like in winter?

I’ve never had hamburger soup, sounds good. Trying to envision it. Do you make a broth and just add cooked hamburger to it?

      1. Yep! Broth can be made with water and spices like taco spice, Tex Mex for example. There’s usually pasta in there as well. Could add some corn, peas, or whatever else in there.

Interesting… almost like chili, but thinner. I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks for recommendation.

Hello, apologies for late reply. You were in my spam folder. Here’s a good recipe for green lentils, but it is the same process for the red ones too. The red ones cook faster, that’s why I favor them. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/13978/lentil-soup/
